Yeah?

They operate on quite different parts of the singer songwriter spectrum. Neither are everyones cup of tea, I suppose.

I happen to love them both.

Oh dear, Ford vs. Yorke, this can only end messily Wink

For the record, my vote goes to Alexander Tucker. Or me. I love my loop pedal Smile

RE: Oh noes!
Loops; they're a bit 2004, aren't they? Ford was an early adopter and now plenty of others have weighed in. It's probably time to move on to the next stage.

I'd like to see someone work two loops, like this. They set up the first part and, while it's playing, quickly do a chorus or middle eight part on another looper, but not through the PA. So basically they're playing something different to what we're hearing. Then at the appropriate moment, they stop one and start the other (I suspect they'd have to jump on the pedal board with both feet to do it).

Now, how cool would that be?

Odd you should say that as (unless i'm mistaken) that's what the Roland RC50 is for...

RE: Oh noes!
I know absolutely nothing about this save that Ford said he uses bits and pieces of various equipment because the manufacturers just cannot get it right in one device........

For that you'd probably need in ear monitors (or an exceptional sense of rhythm! Which you need anyway to use the damn things normally...). You'd certainly need one that would synchronise with an external clock (or perhaps the RC50 beast that nalA posted a picture of. But even with that I don't know if you could record a loop whilst it's playing a different loop. I really want one though...

I've seen it close up many a time and I still think it's the work of some magical other-worldly power. Smile

RE: Oh noes!
It's a vehicle to allow Ford to build complex textures without carrying around a band in a van, not a gimmick.

RE: Oh noes!
I agree with Chris:
"It's a vehicle to allow Ford to build complex textures without carrying around a band in a van."
I took a friend ( a bit of a Jazzer) who hated it (it was the first tour at the now notorious Leapard Gig). It made me look at Chris's point - on the whole the vast majority of popular music requires most of the musicians to play exactly the same patterns over and over - especially guitar, base and drums - so the use of the Loop gets rid of the need for the band. (Who are Oasis other than the Gallaghers?)

More especially it gives a clever user like David* the opportunity to build and build those complex structures and at the same time impress us with his very wide skills on many instruments - and of course have an almost orchestral experience watching a solo musician!

Farewell Glenn and Jo?

*with not so clever users, the Loop becomes intrusive as we watch the struggle with the mechanics of it, rather than enjoying the music.

Kevin
