Wow, what a great night! I was amazed David's talent and passion. Had a chance to chat and he is such a down to earth young man along with pal Stewart.
We were able to record much of the show and will put some on youtube when ready. I remember most of the setlist, included Song for the Road, Stephen, Requiem, GTH, She's not the one (dedicated to Maggie Thatcher),Train, Waiting for the Storm, To Hell with the world and I think Call to Arms. (I find it hard to keep track sometimes when such a great show is going on). Safe travels to the boys. |

RE: London, Ont. March 10
What an amazing show this was. The venue was unbelievably small, no, tiny, and I feel very privileged for having been there to see David perform.
The opening act was a local fellow by the name of Constant Darsaut who did a good job opening. He told some stories about teaching guitar to kids locally and how neat it was to him to open for David. His sister was there and so were some of his friends, so it made for a real interesting atmosphere, one I'll likely not see again in a show. He played a few originals and also covered a Muse song. David's act was superb. I was blown away by his effort for such a small audience. He played as though it were his largest and I was struck by how well his new album has fleshed out his live performances. I didn't write down the set list but wish I had in hindsight, I didn't anticipate writing a review. I observed that it largely consisted of newer material, maybe 65%, along with some older songs like "Songs for the Road" and "State of the Union" which should be show standards they are such great pieces of live performance. I especially enjoy David's interludes between songs and it was fortunate that this show allowed him to speak and give some background on songs. His opener for "Stephen" helped me understand the song and has instantly made it one of my favorites on the new album after previously not understanding it totally. He also spoke of what it's like to "do what he does at the level he does and still hope to pay the rent" before songs for the road. He got large applause for saying that he'd rather "starve than write the a-typical modern pop songs sing to get popular." (included in a much longer "speech" about the topic), though I wanted to say back "David, we don't want you to starve, can I buy you a meal?". Attached please see a selection of photos of this gig chosen to document the experience, it was great. Thank you David for coming to London. -Jeff |
