Forum section headings
Hi
I was wondering if the current sections covered everything we need? Currently we have: - General Chat - Gigs - Off Topic I wondered if might be an idea to add a section under Gigs for Bootlegs, for instance. Or maybe you think I should leave it alone? Any thoughts? Let me know using the poll above and/or replying if you want to! Visit www.davidfordfans.com for more Ford goodness, including tabs, videos and more... |

RE: Forum section headings
Could be nice to have:
Announcements: Locked for where only Wibs/Ford/Admin put important posts rather than stickys in other forums Scratching at the walls (General Ford chat) Dirt & Matchwood (General Chat) Meet Me In the Middle (Talk about the live shows) - subsection: Everyone come together (organise meeting for drinks or whatever before/after shows, offer lifts etc) Lessons from the past: - subsection: bootlegs - subsection: chords & tab - subsection: lyrics Gallery - subsection: Photos (For people to post live gig pictures, pictures of them with Ford etc etc etc) - subsection: Art (Fan's alternate album art, artwork for bootlegs, art inspired by songs, whatever) i'm a sucker for a girl who hates my guts...

RE: Forum section headings
Those are great ideas, Nala, but I would be wary of overcomplicating things. It's got to be easy for new visitors to navigate. KISS.
The 'important threads' bit does the job for announcements too, I think. |

RE: Forum section headings
To be honest I think they'd be better left as they are - forum sections actually make or break a forum...too many and you get too few people visiting each, too few and everything gets lumped in together...seen examples of both and I reckon this is a classic example of "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...

RE: Forum section headings
For the moment, it's alright IMHO. Maybe rename "General Chat" to "General Ford Chat" to make it clearer, but I don't think anything's getting unduly lost at the moment

RE: Forum section headings
Sorry guys.
i wasn't knocking this place. Things don't NEED to change. This place does it's job. i just thought subsections made things easier to navigate as it actually meant you could find the stuff easily, which made things more user friendly but maybe i'm wrong. If i were a newbie and had come here looking for something specific i'd have found this big ol' melting pot slightly intimidating. Seriously consider changing 'General Chat' to 'General Ford Chat' and 'Off Topic' to 'General Chat' though. i've always thought Off Topic makes it sound like somewhere that you're not really meant to post. The announcements thing was just an idea as sometimes things end up being posted in both the gigs forum and the general chat (sometimes with slightly different titles) which often confuses me (as i'm stupid). i'd only suggested the gallery as i thought it might encourage people to be a bit creative and the bootlegs/chord/lyrics bit as i thought it might keep the chat bits slightly cleaner and might have lead to people finding here through google searches. Sorry again.

RE: Forum section headings
I do agree that General Chat would be better as General Ford Chat or just Ford Chat and Off Topic could become General Chat...

I guess it couldn't hurt to have an announcement section, but they're easy enough to find where they are now so I don't think it's a really pressing issue. |

I felt that way the first time I visited the forum. Probably because I was coming from large forums that had all kind of sections... But I agree that being the little number we are right now (even if it's a real pleasure to see so many new posts pop up every day!) we should stick to these 3 general sections. But I would consider adding a subsection for bootlegs... just to make them easier to find. pull these years apart and scatter from the window to settle on the fields ---------------------------------------------- Pride & Prejudice |

RE: Forum section headings
I'd say leave the announcements in the general Ford stuff forum. You want them to be in the most frequently visited place, not somewhere where people have to go looking for them.
You could change 'important threads' to 'annoucements' - that's what we had before. |
