Video treatments
We've had the songs for a few days now, and I often imagine what a video would look like. Usually other people's ideasw are completely different, so I thought I'd throw the question out there...

If you could make a video for a song from LTHTR, what would it be like? Any song, unlimited budget, no constraints, anything.

For me, I'd love to see "She's Not The One", but with Ford playing all the instruments. A little like Alright Now; but all overlayed in the same scene, like the Til The Day video (is that called "poly-Dav"?). Put the Daves in a warehouse, each rocking out on an instrument (drums, bass, guitars, piano, lead singer, a few backing Daves) - would be ace.

What ideas are sitting in everyone else's heads - how would you do it?

RE: Video treatments
Hurricane

Ford at the piano with the usual stage set, except with a orchestra behind - with the wind gradually increasing so that pot plants, pictures and hats etc all blow away. Then the rain starts, the piano stats to slide off to the left, the violinists collapse, Jokeman rolls like tumbleweed across the stage, and it ends with just David, soaked on a bare stage.

Ohhh! I like this! Big Grin Can we have him hit by flying things while he keeps stoically singing and playing? Just to keep up the tradition! Tongue j/k Sorry, David!

But both ideas sound great to me! Smile

I would vote for "She's Not The One" if we could have some CGI Thatchers worked in somewhere! Wink

Every time he sings "it's never enough"... it gets worse.

RE: Video treatments
Not sure about LTHR but had a thought about the St Peter song in video form.

The setting -

Smoky English pub with a bunch of regulars sitting round reading newspaper, playing pool, etc

The Story -

Ford sits propped up at bar with whiskey/brandy in hand slowly nursing away singing along as St Peter plays. At first glance everyone in pub seems normal, just you average regular pub attendees. Cut back to David who then glances again at bartender - bartender turns round to pour ford a drink then hands it to him which is when ford notices the deep gash marks in the bartenders wrists. Ford then looks over to pool table where man is standing leaning on pool cue. another glance reveals the man is in a hospital gown and is not leaning on a cue but in fact leaning on a hospital drip. Ford walks over to man reading newspaper to bum a cigarette. Smoking newspaper man hands ford cigarette when he looks back the man is dripping wet and there's a toaster sitting on the table.

At this point Ford walks over to the doors for the pub which then shoot open and in comes blinding light and billowing white smoke. Next to the door is a hat & coat stand. Ford hangs up the hat and drops the cigarette to the floor, stepping on it to stub it out. He takes off jacket to hang on coat stand which is when you see the rope round his neck and trailing down his back. He then steps forward into the light and smoke.

The End

Its a very slow day in the office today . Its really not got any message or meant to mean anything, well not that i can think of. Just a a pub full of people who committed suicide awaiting there moment to go upstairs and hear the judgment passed on them.

I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

RE: Video treatments
Nothing At All is quite evocative too. Perhaps Ford marching through the streets with a megaphone, joined by a chorus of Late Greats etc in the background for the reprise?

With CGI, the Thatchers could be doing anything - what did you have in mind?

RE: Video treatments
According to my view video should be that people want to watch. A video treatment goes beyond this exercise of defining the overall direction of the video. Video treatment is the starting point of every project. It allows the production company to communicate its ideas to the artists and it allows artists to make decisions regarding the direction of their video. you can easily find Movie Screenplay on the net also and they are very helpful to treat video structure.

RE: Video treatments
Ford tweets:

@davidfordisdead it's video season. i am inviting treatments in 140 characters. a strong idea needs no more...e.g. getting face slapped in a car park.

...he doesn't say which song it's for though.

RE: Video treatments
So... ideas... feel free to laugh at these!

Song: Making up for lost time

Our hero living in a car. Eating, sleeping, playing gigs... everything inside a small car. Obviously it's a Mini. Big Grin The car is always moving... but since this could be a little tricky to do for real without him having to actually drive... there should be fake backgrounds moving out of the windows. Roughly painted backgrounds with views from all over the world... the point is that there is no need to make it real... it all should look very fake.

And here we go with two other ideas that are a little out there...

Song: She is not the one

1) A video remake of the movie "Lars and the real girl" (I actually have never watched the movie but I roughly know the story).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/

Starring our hero and a doll looking like Margaret Tatcher (or a cardboard picture of her)

2) And this is my fave one... our hero is the boyfriend of a gorgeous girl that treats him like a dog. And I don't mean metaphorically. When they are out together she keeps him on a leash. He sleeps in a dog house... eats dog food (LOL), brigns her her slippers and everything. Till in the end he figures out that she is treating him like a dog and... leaves her? Oh, I haven't figured out a proper ending yet. Oh, I know what you are thinking... in your head it probably looks quite grotesque and wrong. Ah ah, but I think that done in a proper way it could work nicely... maybe... Angel

And to save this post I'll leave you a link to a lovely video from the Swell Season. The idea behind it is simple but absolutely perfect in my humble opinion.

RE: Video treatments
Had a 'vision' for Sylvia floating around my head for ages - 1930s 'Chaplin-esque' type scene. A bashful Ford could be persuing the courtship of an attractive aloof maiden. All kind of double-speed, and comical. Maybe even a bit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR0FJyutA-c. More a musical than lyrical fit, I admit!
