Supporting The Low Anthem

Supporting The Low Anthem
So over the next week David will play some shows with The Low Anthem calling at Birmingham, Manchester and London.

I was just wondering what people think will be the format of these support shows. I'm guessing time will be about 30-40 minutes so there is unlikely to be the chance to play a full new album in its entirety even if David wanted to. Also as support slots are likely to be largely to a new 'uninforded' audience, is it more likely to be a IDCWYCM, SOTU type set rather than say She's The One and the others I am yet to see live?

Essentially I'm just wondering in anticipation for Sunday night! Who else is going to be in Brum??

RE: Supporting The Low Anthem
There will be another support act (Brown Bird) on before David so I expect his set time to be closer to the 30 minute mark rather then then 40, which is a shame. But I am sure he will put on a great show for those fans who are coming to see him and to catch the eye of those Low Anthem fans Smile

RE: Supporting The Low Anthem
I think the talk:song ratio will be a bit different from the solo shows!

Also I'd make it a LTHTR based set. If people haven't heard David before they don't need to hear the old 'hits' and the new album will be the one on the merch stand.

I'd throw in SOTU just for the wow factor, though. And Song for the Road, just because.

I think otherwise, Ford's got a fantastic back catalogue of great songs, he's got to use the best of them to get the audience attention and leave them wanting to hear more.

Granted, trying to gauge an audience reaction is easier said than done, but I bet we could all come up with a great set list from all his songs that we could agree on........ ......Or maybe not :-)

I know it's about promotion of the new album, but it's also about new fan base, you he shouldn't ignore, idcwycm, til the day, etc.

But a new fan from a live show is likely to pick up the latest album and if they like it, then delve into the back catalogue.

RE: Supporting The Low Anthem
Times from the SBE website are:

Brown Bird: 7.20pm
David Ford: 8.10pm
THE LOW ANTHEM: 9.10pm

So guessing 30 mins for Mr Ford.

I'll be there Jonny , hopefully just in time for Ford as I'm working this weekend .

As regards the support slot probably similar to Dukebox ..... 5 songs .
I would guess " Panic" to open and then probably from .....
Stephen
Surfing Guantanamo Bay
Making up for lost time
THWTW
IDCWYCM
Call to arms
SFTR
and hopefully finishing with a rebel rousing SOTU .....

but if he just wants to sing his way through the yellow pages I'm equally happy with that !

Til the Day?! That's another band's song from 6 years ago!

RE: Supporting The Low Anthem
I caved and bought a ticket from a tout, sitting in level 1.
Shall I do a live blog? Ford is currently setting himself up, no roadie tonight!
I have to revise my rule... there's nothing wrong with going to a gig alone, unless it's unreserved seating.
Nice audience. Opened Nothing At ALl a cap, now Care What You Call Me with Hannah.

Loving Hannah's fancy piano work! Now Song For The Road.
WEll, I'm an idiot. Standing in the wings...
Train, Union (crowd went wild) and Stephen. Very nice!
Hannah did a recorder solo - shame them only turned her mike on for the last 10%.

Thanks, our man on the scene. How many people were there? Was there merch available - and were they buying it?

RE: Supporting The Low Anthem
Looked like a pretty full house - the stalls were standing too! I saw SFTR and a digipak version of the new album - I resisted the temptation to look at it, as I've already ordered the special edition.

At the time I thought Ford's choice of setlist was perhaps a bit ballady and slow (when he has so many ballsy songs), but having heard the Low Anthem's set, it was right for the audience. I think SOTU works incredibly well at pulling in new fans, although it should be a rare treat for headline sets!

Hannah and Ford had clearly rehearsed together, as I thought they were great together. Now bring on the 9 piece band!
Tonight was my 30th Ford gig. If you add on the 11 easyworld gigs, am I 9 away from some kind of towel set?
