What's Ford's Best Song?

What's Ford's Best Song?
An impossible task, but please rack your brains for a moment or two! I've already changed my mind about twenty times!

I knew Ford's music was special when tears started flowing down my neck the first time I listened to 'Laughing Aloud'. It was the harmonies at the end that did it. A song has never released so much emotion in me before and I don't think that's ever going to happen again. What makes it even more incredible is that I was perfectly happy at the time! Little wonder that I went and bought his whole discography soon after!

If I was a betting man, I'd predict that the songs with the most votes will be:

State Of The Union
Tonight
Junkies And Whores
Cheer Up
'Til The Day
Goodnight
I Don't Care What You Call Me
New York
This Is Where I Stand

Prove me right/wrong! (You can define "best" any way that you'd like.)

Including easyworld? Blasphemy (although Drive has incredibly underrated - perhaps one for DMC8?).

David isn't really a 'hit single' type artist to me, and in a strange way, I like the 'littler' songs (get me being all elitist). They're smaller, but hit you harder - I would have A Long Time Ago, Train, New York, Can't Go Back and If You Only in my top 5 though!

the new video version of go to hell
sad sad sad
i don't expect you t o notice
2 lovers driving to another place
can't go back

A Short Song About Stars almost made it in, it's short but it's just really perfect.
All i ever had would be bubbling just under - there's something about the delievry and the lyrics that i jsut really like.
Drive (Is it just me or does laughing aloud seem like it's older sibling?), A Lot of Miles from Home, Laughing Aloud and You Were Right would also all be damn close to making it.
i love the melody and the lyrics of the chorus of demons but the lyrics for the verses are just a bit too random to make it into my top 5.

If anyone can remember back to before Christmas, you can probably predict my favourite..... 'Me'

closely followed by....

Go To Hell (looped - which is surprisingly easy to recreate - although I don't have half the instruments and gadgets available and my £200 loop station doesn't quite have enough features/buttons)

By The Sea - Gorgeous pint sized perfection
You And Me - 'With her left hand oh'

and finaly

I'm Alright Now

Goodnight almost makes it, the end of that album is FANTASTIC, but the verses are bit too low , as if they have tried o hard to make the song calm and quiet before the outro.

"she writes his name in steam, apon the shower screen, with her left hand, oh...."

Totally agree about By The Sea. I love those little tracks, that just MAKE the album an album rather than a bunch of songs. Although I suppose if you cut out Armistice and By The End, then TIWIS is 9 tracks too....

But to be pedantic, isn't that quote from TNTT? Tongue

I think I would go for, in no particular order,

Laughing Aloud
Saddest Song
100 Weight (acousitc version!)
A Stain to Never Fade (acoustic again!)
Trying to find my feet

although, Tonight, All I can remember, and SFTR are definitely up there!

And I sadly have not heard New York yet, but hopefully one day! Smile

im goin to have to go with -

song for the road - due to the wedding nuptials an what not

stain to never fade - cos i love it, even if the bloodhound gang did rip off the intro to make a song about finding a new vagina.

state of the union(live) - truly an amazing spectacle to behold for the first time live.

requiem - for its lyrical prowess

short song about shoes - great upbeat little melody and maybe ford at his least miserable,

that said i love them all, hes never done a bad song, oh and also im quite partial to the 'hopelessly devoted to you' cover!!

Re: What's Ford's Best Song?
ChrisFlynn Wrote:(although Drive has incredibly underrated - perhaps one for DMC8?).

I was tempted to put a bid in for it to be played at M&C in Birmingham, but I was penniless at the time. I think it's my most played easyworld song, but my enjoyment of it has been tainted ever so slightly now I've read about the "eat a foetus" lyrical mishap.

I'm seriously impressed that most people have voted for the under-rated classics eg. Trying To Find My Feet, You Were Right, Saddest Song, Can't Go Back etc etc. Good work! One of the reasons why I didn't pick Armistice originally was because I thought that would've been met with derision! (I've always wondered if the appeal is simply because it's over as soon as it's started...)

You would be right to be pedantic, although I was refering to what it makes me think of doing rather than a direct quote... didn't put that across properly. (Sorry for grossing anyone out)

ST PETER would definitely be my favorite song at the mement. In my mind it does not get much better. I do have to admit that I have two David Ford CD's released and know all of those songs, but some of the other songs mentioned I do not know and would really like to know where I can find them. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much...I will be on a hunt now for a couple of Easyworld CD's. I can't even imagine the music being as good as his solo stuff. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem, but it is really difficult to stop listening to his music. It's too good. Thanks again.

and a lot of the great easyworld songs didn't even make the albums....

for me....

song for the road (acoustic version)
this is where I stand
state of the union (video version - how I've wanted him to use the electric guitar in it live, ooh or the sandwiches taste of ice cream version, awesome)
i don't expect you to notice (ford solo version)

and then the kid in me still loves

everyone knows
other man (live obviously)
better ways to self destruct

oh and i'm partial to the enjoy the silence cover as well... he should so do a covers album one day!
